Day 6: Pink State Capitols

As someone who is somewhat obsessed with visiting state capitol buildings, I was not about to miss the trip to visit the Rhode Island State Capitol building on this trip.  I'm pretty sure I was the only person to tour the building today, so it was nice to pretty much have the place to myself to check out the Senate and House Chambers, view the murals in the rotunda, etc. etc.

Since I'm a little tuckered out from all that history, I'm cheating a little bit, but it was really fun to find out that every October, the Capitol is turned pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Capitol is lit in pink as part of the seasonal "Waterfire" event.  This weekend's event benefits the Gloria Gemma Foundation, an organization ironically founded by sisters who had lost their mom to breast cancer.  Looks like a decent organization...well, they have a nice website anyway.

The events start tomorrow with the bulk of the "motivational and inspiring activities" including the "Mastering Martial Arts:  Breaking Boards For Breast Cancer", happening on Saturday.  We are planning to go to Newport's Oktoberfest.  Tough call.
